Derbyshire Scout Virtual Campover 2020 #derbyshirecampover

Date - Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd or Sunday 24th May, 2020.

Covid·19 may have changed the way that we have to do things but it doesn't stop us from doing them in a different way! Guiding and Scouting in Derbyshire are well renowned for their great joint camping efforts, so let's make this another one of them as we bring our camp together virtually, from all corners of the county and all sections of our organisations. There will be the option to purchase a special event badge from which any proceeds will benefit Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity Covid-19 appeal and the Chesterfield Royal Hospital Charity. It really will be a virtual camp to support real life heroes.

Choose from Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd or Sunday 24th May, 2020 to take part in your #derbyshirecampover- there's nothing to stop you from camping over for all three nights!

Set up your camp anywhere you want it to be, within the confines of your home. You can sleep outside or inside, make a den, put up a tent, sleep in a hammock, cuddle up in a blanket fort - the variations are endless and left entirely to your imagination. You could even theme your event if you wanted.
(All that we ask is that parents/guardians ensure that their young people are acting responsibly)
Make sure that you enjoy at least one activity that you would enjoy normally on a Sleepover, Camp or Pack Holiday. You could make a campfire (real or virtual), enjoy hot chocolate, do a craft, play a game with other members of your family, eat s'mores, write a diary, sing campfire songs ..... We'll be
sharing ideas but feel free to devise your own or share ones that your groups enjoy.
Then tell us all about it! Use the hashtag #derbyshirecampover when uploading to social media and tag the County in any public Face book posts etc.

Always make sure that you have appropriate permission before sharing photos.

Participation in the event will be free for everyone. We will provide a virtual certificate to participants (unit leaders will register their units and then each leader will be sent a participation certificate to circulate after the event).

Of course there will be badges! These will be optional to purchase at £1 each plus P&P.

Feel free to contact your leader, or Izzy (ACC Programme, Girlguiding Derbyshire) with any questions or queries on acc@girlguidingderbyshire.org

Virtual Camp Record Breakers

Over 70 members of 1st Taxal Scouts took part in a 'virtual' camp last night courtesy of Northumberland Scouts (https://www.campathome.org.uk/).

Despite the atrocious weather everyone had great fun and we are now part of a world record - over 84,000 people took part in the camp, with campers joining from all over world.

There's another virtual camp next month, this time organised by our own Derbyshire Scouts over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Let's hope we get better weather and even more participants!

All scout meetings cancelled

We are aware there have been lots of messages bouncing around the district in the aftermath of HQs announcement that all face to face scouting is suspended until further notice.

We want to clarify that this means for us. The following events and meeting have been suspended:

- St George's Day celebration

- appointments committees

- unit meetings

- district team meetings

- ADCs meetings

- all training

- Gradbach young wardens scheme

 - district AGM

We are looking forward to receiving ideas from the young people and yourselves on how we can carry on scouting in these altered circumstances. Please send any ideas to secretary@highpeakscouting.org.uk. We are aware that different things may work for different age groups.

The district team is working in the background to enable the behind the scenes aspect of scouting to still occur and looking at alternative ways of holding meetings and training.

We hope to be sending regular updates as things develop so watch this space.

Yours in scouting

The District Team

Scouting suspension

We are sad to announce that meetings of all sections at 1st Taxal Scout Group are suspended until further notice.

This is in line with national guidance received from the Scout Association following the Prime Minister's announcement today regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This is a developing situation and we will aim to share any additional information I receive in a timely manner.

The Scouts have created a webpage: scouts.org.uk/coronavirus which they'll keep updated from tomorrow.

We are planning to share activities for young people to do at home with their parents if families are faced with self-isolation. We will be communicating more about this soon.

Please look after yourselves and those around you.

Saul Brown,

Group Scout Leader
